Sending Smiles and Hugs

Hi scrappers, I've got a couple techniques I'd like to share with you today. Before I get to the card I want to apologize for the lack of pictures. My camera started acting up and all I could do was use what I had already taken. Hopefully this won't be an expensive fix, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Onto my card. I purchased this beautiful 6x6 paper stack from Authentique that I've been really excited to use. As I was thinking about what I wanted to create I realized I didn't have any ribbon that matched my paper, so I thought I'd try and create my own.



I started with white grosgrain ribbon from Stampin' Up, then I pulled out a few colors of glimmer mist, a pink and a red. I honestly didn't know if this would even work so I started with a really small piece of ribbon to test it out.


I combined my colors and the used my heat gun to dry the ribbon...and it worked! As I went along I compared it to the paper I was going to use and was really happy with the end result.


Next, instead of die cutting embellishments I created my own. I took the piece of paper above and cut out a few of the flowers.


I wanted to create pleating with my ribbon so I adhered glue to the back of a piece of trimmed paper. Again I apologize for the photos, but hopefully you can get an idea from the picture above.


Since the ribbon adds volume I adhered dimensional adhesive to the paper before adding it to my card.

Throwback Thursday Challenge

Good evening! This is my entry for this week's Throwback Thursday Challenge at My Creative Time with Emma. Our challenge this week was an animal theme with the Zoobaloo cartridge. As always, if we don't have the cartridge Emma just asks that we stick to the theme and use an older cartridge. Since I don't have Zoobaloo I used Everyday Paper Dolls and Alphalicious.

A couple of weeks ago I took my nephew to see 'The Lion King' for his 5th birthday. We had so much fun! This week I decided to alter a frame so I can put a picture in it from our day out, and Micah hang it in his bedroom. I think it's adorable and I know Micah will love it. I cut a photo mat to place the picture on and adhered that to a white piece of cardstock. I secured the ribbon on the left side so I can slide the picture underneath. I did the same thing with the lion, and just glued down the right side...I actually used a few pop dots. I used my gypsy to weld the words. I also attached one of our tickets to the mat, which I think is a fun memento and it has the date, time, and location of the event on it as well. Then I just used a few stickers I had to finish it off. The mat that came with the frame was white and I decided to spice it up a little. I used two different colors of blue glimmer mist to do that.

I also used some chalk to highlight the lion's cheeks as well as my black and white gel pens.

Mini Album-Organization

I'm working on a mini album that contains images of the stamps and cuttlebug folders I currently own. Not too long ago I purchased a new cuttlebug folder, and what do you know?...I already own that one. So, I heard of something similar and thought I'd give this new organization method a try.

I decorated the front of my mini album with paper, flowers and lace from Prima, as well as some glimmer mist and ribbon from Papertrey Ink. I raided my scraps and cut 2x2 squares that I ran through my cuttlebug and then labeled. I'm still working on my stamps and also will be adding some more embellishments. Hopefully this will help me utilize more of what I already own and prevent me from purchasing any more duplicates.
